The Palace of Auburn Hills Spotlight

Andre Drummond single-handedly makes the Detroit Pistons a must-watch team. Drummond is a massive center who’s dynamic athleticism and Shaq-like scoring ability makes the Pistons a playoff contender in the East. Whether he is dunking on opponents, finishing alley-oops or making a monstrous block on the defensive end, Drummond is a human highlight reel and worth the price of admission. The other centerpiece of this thrilling Pistons team is point guard Reggie Jackson.  The Boston College product was stuck behind Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City, but now on the Pistons he has truly emerged as a star. Jackson’s ability to drive to the basket at will and his pick and roll wizardry makes coach Stan Van Gundy’s four in and one out offense work.

In the offseason the Pistons added two stretch power forwards to the team in Henry Ellenson and John Leuer. Ellenson was a top-five talent in the NBA draft and should fit perfectly next to Drummond as he develops. Wisconsin product Leuer is returning to Midwest where he had tremendous success in college and will likely fit in perfectly in Detroit. Rounding out the rotation are wings Tobias Harris, Stanley Johnson and Marcus Morris.  Harris had an excellent year last season after being traded from the Magic and he provides the Pistons with perimeter scoring.  Johnson and Morris play both forward positions and give Detroit defensive versatility as well as perimeter playmaking. With the continued development of Andre Drummon, Reggie Jackson and their young wings, the Detroit Pistons should emerge as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
