The running of the 143rd Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The derby will feature the best 3-year-old thoroughbred horses in the world. The 2017 Derby field will be determined by a points system. Twenty horses line up at the gate with a chance to win but only one can finish first. The Kentucky Derby winning purse is $2 million.
