The Texans took meaningful steps forward in 2024 behind new head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. After a rough start, the team began to gel mid-season – Stroud showed poise and accuracy beyond his years, setting several franchise rookie records, and the defense, inspired by Ryans’ energy, finished the year playing at a high level. Houston improved its win total significantly from the year before and established a foundation to build on. In the 2025 offseason, the Texans doubled down on this youth movement: they signed a veteran receiver to mentor a young receiving corps and used a first-round draft pick on a dominant edge rusher to pair with rising star Will Anderson Jr. With a blend of promising young talent and wise veterans, the Texans are looking to make further strides and possibly challenge for a playoff spot in 2025.

NRG Stadium is enhancing its facilities as it prepares to host major events (like the World Cup in 2026) and to give Texans fans a better game-day experience. In the past year, significant upgrades were approved – including replacing the aging end zone video boards with brand new, larger screens to ensure replays and graphics are crystal clear. The stadium’s premium areas are also getting a refresh: the club level and suite corridors have received new paint, flooring, and modern décor to brighten and modernize the look, and the East and West VIP entrances were upgraded to provide a grander welcome for club and suite guests. All told, these improvements are making the live experience at NRG Stadium more enjoyable, complementing the Texans’ on-field progress.

The Texans hit it big in the 2023 NFL Draft, selecting both the Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year in quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. After a late-season surge saw the Texans win the AFC South and score a playoff win over Cleveland, the Texans are making a huge push on offense for 2024. The team acquired both wide receiver Stefon Diggs from Buffalo and signed former Bengal Joe Mixon at running back. Fellow rookie Tank Dell was having a great year at WR before an injury derailed his season, and Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz were great in the pass-catching game too. The Texans could wind up being one of the top teams in the AFC and a fun team to watch on offense.

NRG Stadium is in the planning phases of improvements on the way over the next two years in advance of the 2026 World Cup. They also got three first-round picks from Cleveland for Deshaun Watson and drafted to improve their defense with cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. third overall out of LSU and lineman Kenyon Green later in the first round with that pick from the Browns. The Texans are young but have an exciting group that could surprise more teams like they did in 2021.
