Hurricanes Spotlight

Current NHL Season

The Carolina Hurricanes aim to return to the playoffs in 2019-'20 after an improbable deep playoff run last season. The 2018-'19 Hurricanes shocked the hockey world by beating the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and then subsequently sweeping the New York Islanders in Round 2. The 'Canes eventually lost to the Stanley Cup Finalist Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals. Last season, the 'Canes energized the entire league with their team chemistry and impressive post-game on-ice celebrations. After being infamously chastised by old-school hockey personality Don Cherry as "a bunch of jerks", the 'Canes embraced their identity and it seemed to galvanize their team and fanbase even more. The Hurricanes return a talented roster this season led by young superstars Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen. Winger Andrei Svechnikov returns for... MORE

Past Spotlights

The Carolina Hurricanes having been hovering close to the playoffs the past few seasons, and this year could be the one they finally break through. Take it from veteran right wing Justin Williams, who won a Stanley Cup with the 'Canes in 2006 and was signed to a 2-yr, $9M contract: "I really like this team and like where it's going." Last season, it was left winger Jeff Skinner leading the way with 63 points. The exciting rookie Finnish winger Sebastian Aho made a splash last season, scoring 24 goals and becoming the youngest player in 'Canes franchise history to record a hat trick. Aho is a fantastic skater with incredible shiftiness and ability to create plays; PNC Arena sky boxes are the perfect way to watch this budding star. Centers Victor Rask and Jordan Staal will also return and look to continue to improve this team

Entering 2016, expectations are high for the Hurricanes.  The Hurricanes return left winger Jeff Skinner, center Jordan Staal, center Victor Rask and center Elias Lindholm- the top four goal scorers last season.  Skinner led the team with 51 points on 28 goals and 23 assists. Staal finished last season with 48 points on 20 goals and 28 assists. he was a master facilitator from the center of the ice.  Tied with Staal with 48 points was 23-year-old Victor Rask who broke out last year to score 21 goals and dish out 27 assists.  The final part of their fearsome foursome was center Elias Lindholm who finished with 39 points.  In the offseason, the Hurricanes brought in young and talented left winger Teuvo Teravainen and solid veteran Bryan Bickell both from the Blackhawks. Teravainen should add skill while Bickell will bring a tough presence to the lineup.
