Business has certainly picked up in the Motor City. After entering the 2023 season as a popular dark-horse pick, the Lions lived up to those expectations and then some. After only being seen on national TV on Thanksgiving Day for so many years, Ford Field hosted its first two playoff games in the stadium’s history in January, and Detroit showed up and showed out. Despite a rough record last year, the Lions showed great improvement, heart, and hustle under first-year head coach Dan Campbell. Detroit lost several heartbreakers but played up in tying the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road and beating the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings at home as part of a 3-3 stretch to finish the season after an 0-10-1 start. The team gave quarterback Jared Goff a new weapon in D.J. Chark, coming over from Jacksonville in free agency to go with Amon-Ra St. Brown, who emerged as a top target late in the season, and running back D’Andre Swift enters his third season with a solid second option in Jamaal Williams. The defense also improved with the signing of safety Tracy Walker and the draft selection of popular Michigan linebacker Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 2-overall pick.
