Cardinals Spotlight

Current NFL Season

Major upgrades have the 2020 Arizona Cardinals amongst the top in the NFC West. The Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray experiment went well enough in their first year, that year two together have expectations rising. Murray’s dynamic playmaking ability makes the Cardinals offense tougher to defend. If Murray was not enough of a problem for defenses, the Cardinals made a big trade to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins of course will join Larry Fitzgerald to form one of the best tandems in the NFL. The backfield is in the hands of Kenyan Drake as long-time Cardinal, David Johnson, was traded for Hopkins in the trade with the Texans.

The Cardinals defense is led by sack artist, Chandler Jones. Jones is getting significant help behind him with additions like Devon Kennard, Jordan Phillips, De’Vondre Campbell and first-round draft pick, Isaiah Simmons. The Cardinals... MORE

Past Spotlights

With No. 1 overall draft pick Kyler Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury in the fold, the 2019 Arizona Cardinals season is shaping up to be an exciting one, if nothing else.

Kingsbury’s Texas Tech teams were in the top 25 in NCAA scoring offense in each of the past four seasons before he was let go as Red Raiders head coach. With a further emphasis on offense taking hold in the NFL, he was hired by Cardinals this offseason.

With Kingsbury on board, it so happens that Murray, the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner out of Oklahoma, was entered in this draft. It was reported that Kingsbury recruited Murray when he was a sophomore in high school. While he didn’t land the QB in college, he got him in the pros.

Who knows how much success Murray will have as a rookie starter in Week 1, but given Kingsbury’s background, Arizona is going to play fast and try to score plenty of points. Cardinals offensive veterans David Johnson (running back) and Larry Fitzgerald (wide receiver) are also expected to reap the benefits of this new system.

Outside of these major changes, the Cardinals did add a veteran presence on defense with the acquisition of longtime Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs. Former Seahawks guard J.R. Sweezy was also brought onboard.

The Cardinals are entering year two of a $28 million upgrade to the club levels of State Farm Stadium. Features include new bars and food service locations in all four corners of the stadium, more televisions, new furniture, and the creation of “The Tail Feather,” which is a full-service bar and speakeasy lounge. Suites of various sizes and in different locations around the stadium are available on gameday.

The Cardinals’ 2019 schedule features both home and away matchups with NFC West rivals San Francisco, Seattle, and defending NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams. The remaining home games will be against Detroit, Carolina, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland. Road contests outside of the division will be staged at Baltimore, Cincinnati, the New York Giants, New Orleans, and Tampa Bay.

The 2018 Arizona Cardinals begin a new era under head coach Steve Wilks. Wilks takes over for former head coach Bruce Arians. Running back David Johnson will be back healthy after an injury kept him sidelined for most of last season. Johnson is as dynamic as they come in the backfield. With Carson Palmer retiring, the Arizona Cardinals wasted little time to replace their quarterback. In 2018, Sam Bradford will be under center and has the talent to lead this Cardinals offense back into the playoffs. To make sure Bradford stays healthy, the Cardinals also added to their offensive line by signing free agents Andre Smith and Justin Pugh. Still performing as one of the league’s most reliable receivers, Larry Fitzgerald will be the number one wideout.

Defensively, the Cardinals were unable to retain Tyrann Mathieu but still feature one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks, Patrick Peterson. Budda Baker and Antoine Bethea will help form what could be a very good secondary in 2018. The Cardinals do have a strong group of linebackers featuring Chandler Jones, Karlos Dansby and Haason Reddick.
