Hornets Spotlight

Current NBA Season

After parting ways with Kemba Walker, the Charlotte Hornets are forging a new path to sustained success this season, as the development of several young players will be the big theme of 2019-20. Terry Rozier was brought in from Boston, and he will go from a role player off the bench to not only an everyday starter, but a featured member of the team. Miles Bridges, Malik Monk, Dwayne Bacon, and P.J. Washington are a part of the young core that will be fun to see mature as the season goes on.

There’s a wide variety of premium seating and experiences for you to enjoy at the Spectrum Center. Hardwood Seats are the ultimate experience in the NBA – the courtside seats are located between the scorer’s table and the bench, putting you right in the middle of the action. You also get access to the Hardwood Club, which features all-inclusive pre-game meals provided by... MORE

Past Spotlights

With James Borrego taking over the head coaching duties in Charlotte, the Hornets have their sights set on a return to the playoffs during the 2018-19 season. All-Star point guard Kemba Walker is in the final year of his contract, meaning this year could be his last in the Queen City.

The Hornets will have the same starting lineup as they did last season. Charlotte’s trio of small forwards - Nicolas Batum, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Marvin Williams - will join point guard Kemba Walker and center Cody Zeller. Walker and Batum are the offense’s top playmakers, while Kidd-Gilchrist anchors the defense on the perimeter. Expect Jeremy Lamb and Frank Kaminsky to provide a much needed scoring punch and three point shooting off the bench.

The Hornets made a few moves in the summer which should drastically change their bench. In a surprising move, Tony Parker left the San Antonio Spurs to join fellow Frenchman Nicolas Batum in Charlotte. Parker will serve as Kemba Walker’s primary backup in what may be the final chapter of his legendary career. Charlotte also traded for center Bismack Biyombo, who was actually drafted by the Hornets in 2011 and spent the first four years of his career in Charlotte. Biyombo is an elite rim protector who should thrive coming off the bench behind Zeller.

The Hornets will also expect first round pick Miles Bridges to contribute right away. The 20-year old small forward will be a key piece off the bench, along with last year’s first round pick - Malik Monk. This will be an important year for Monk to translate his elite scoring ability that he displayed in college over to the NBA.

By far the biggest win of the Charlotte Hornets offseason was the resigning of Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams. The two versatile wings’ shooting opened up driving lanes for the Hornet Guards and their defensive versatility allowed Charlotte to deploy an aggressive switching defense that hounded opposing guards and caused turnovers in bunches. With those two back the Hornets will be an explosive and exciting offensive unit.  The Hornets also added Marco Bellinelli via trade to help with floor spacing and signed hulking center Roy Hibbert to replace the departed Al Jefferson.

The Hornets are hoping that the young and talented trio of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Cody Zeller and Frank “the Tank” Kaminsky all become major contributors. MKG has consistently showed his enormous talent since entering the league and the Hornets think that a full healthy season in 2016 will be a huge step in his development towards being a terror on defense and slashing wing. Zeller and Kaminsky are both highly skilled bigs whose outside shooting and playmaking ability at the center position help to make the Hornets offense buzz. The leader of the Charlotte offense is undoubtedly March Madness legend Kemba Walker.  Walker had a great season in 2015-2016 and improved his shooting efficiency while retaining his off the dribble explosiveness.  If Kemba shows that his breakout year las season is sustainable, the Hornets should be able to make a run at the top four seeds in the East.
