There’s an old, cliched sales pitch about not being able to tell the players without a scorecard. That may be the case for this year’s Coyotes, whose roster has undergone the equivalent of an extreme home makeover. Only nine members of last year’s squad return as general manager Bill Armstrong began molding a new team identity, including a new head coach in Andre Tourigny. Offseason acquisitions include numerous players with a wealth of experience such as Andrew Ladd and Anton Stralman. The biggest addition could be defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who proved to be a solid contributor offensively in his seven seasons with the Flyers. Goaltender duties will go to Karel Vejmelka, who will be making his NHL debut after years playing in his homeland of Czechoslovakia. Arizona went to great lengths this offseason to try and improve its goal-scoring capability by acquiring veteran Stanley Cup-winner Phil Kessel from Pittsburgh. Kessel was a favorite of head coach Rick Tocchet from his time as an assistant with the Penguins.
Center Alex Galchenyuk was shipped to Pittsburgh in the Kessel deal, so the Coyotes are hoping that a separate trade with Colorado for Carl Soderberg will help plug that gap. The second line will be patrolled by center Nick Schmaltz, who the organization recently signed to a seven-year deal.
Arizona will also rely on goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who had a solid 2.33 goals against average (GAA) in his first season as a primary goalie.
Check out the newest offering at Gila River Arena this year – the AZ Blue Club! Catch the game in reserved, semi-private boxes that offer panoramic views of the ice and comes with an all-inclusive buffet.
The Fox Sports Arizona Fan Cave also provides great views while giving guests additional perks like a private bar, leather couches, a wall of LED TVs, VIP garage passes and arena entrance, and even a vintage bubble hockey arcade game!
Traditional luxury suites are also available in 12-, 18-, 25-, 36- and 50-person private boxes.
The young Arizona Coyotes hope to return to the playoffs in the 2017-18 season. Skilled center Clayton Keller and big defenseman Jakob Chychrun both look to improve upon their rookie seasons, while defenseman Alex Goligoski and left wing Jamie McGinn will also support the squad. The Coyotes will once again look to defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson to provide the lionshare of the team's points. The Swedish defenseman tallied 27 assists and scored 12 goals. Max Domi will also contribute to the attack once again, having finished with 29 assists and 9 goals last year. The Coyotes also made a splash by bringing in former Rangers center Derek Stepan into the fray. Needless to say but this should be an exciting team to watch night in and night out.
Watching Coyotes hockey from a Gila River Arena sky box is the pinnacle of the fan experience.
